ABOUT THE ARTIST

Upon returning to Germany after five years in the United States, Jens Hanke achieved a series of paintings which he titled "Sequence." Email generated over those months — primarily exchanges with American friends and acquaintances — lent themselves to a second project: a timeline of correspondence which Hanke collected, bound into book form, and overlaid with computer images. For Hanke, the book (also titled "Sequence") represents a time capsule, beginning with one of the last paintings he completed in Chicago and closing with the "Sequence" series.

Below, we are pleased to feature five paintings from the "Sequence" series, along with a link to other selections from Hanke's portforlio of works.
